Cardiff were in control at half time after a Jay Bothroyd header seperated the teams. There was no Criag Bellamy in the squad and with Michael Chopra injured Jones opted to play Borthroyd as the lone striker with a midfield consisting of Jason Koumas, Peter Whittingham, Seyi Olofinjana, Danny Drinkwater and Chris Burke.
The back four were Matthews, Hudson, Gerrard and Naylor with Tom Heaton in goals.
Cardiff carved several first half opportunites wth Olofinjana commanding in midfield. City we using the flanks well and getting the ball into the box. Peterborough had a couple of mostly long range efforts at goal taht Heaton dealt with or watched go wide.
City were weakened when Olofinjana went off. We are not sure why. He was replaced by the returning Steve McPhail. McPhail himself was then subbed himself as the game came towards the end.
The second half saw a total turn around. Right from the kick off Peterborough were on the front foot. Several efforts flashed high and wide and Heaton was by far the busier of the keepers.
City did have chances but there were not as clear cut as the first half and with players tiring the Peterborough centre halves were able to deal with their responsibilities better than City.
Peterborough levelled when the City defence/midfield failed to get their act together and MacKail-Smith lashed in an emphatic shot from the edge of the box 15 mins from time.
City still looked to break and felt they should have had a penalty. Bothroyd impeded in the box but the referee waived play on despite Bothroyd being stood with his shorts half down where the defended had nearly yanked them off him.
Posh went down the other and and Boyd found himself with time and space on the edge of the box to curle home a cracking finish to complete another Peterborough comeback against City.
I really have no desire to go back there agin after coming away totally miserable in my last two visits.
So it's Peterborough who go into Saturday's round 3 draw and City are left to concentrate on the League for a while.
Next up Portsmouth away on Saturday.
