It took a goal from Curtis Davies 5 mins before half time to make City realise they needed to be more positive if they were to get anything from the game
Cardiff, playing in blue, had long spells of possession but it was keep ball and not hurting Hull. When the home side attacked they looked far more dangerous.
Graham fired over an open goal and before Curtis ghosted past a static Cardiff back line to head Hull in front, the home side had hit the side netting and forced a good save from Lewis.
City players celebrate Whittingham's goal
Cardiff's oportunities in the first half were restricted to a deflected effort wide and a penalty claim when Kim looked to have been tripped in the box.
Cardiff went after Hull right from the start of the second half but failure to get shots on goal twice allowed Hull to break dangerously.
Midway through the second half it clicked into place for City. They broke with precision through Caulker, Campbell and Cowie who crossed the most delicious ball that Peter Whittingham met on the volley for a truely superb goal.
Cardiff pressed and Gunnarsson headed over from close range. Hull though remained a danger and will feel disappointed they couldn't find a winner in a match they will have targetted as a must win game for them.
Late free kicks from Tom Huddlestone and Peter Whittingham came to nothing and the game eneded 1 - 1.
Cardiff are now unbeaten in three Premier League games including a win over Man City and a draw against Everton.
Goalscorer Peter Whittingham said afterwards
“I was pleased to score as it was a great team move by the lads in the build up. More importantly it brought us back into the game.
“I think when you look at our first four games – taking into account the opposition we've been up against – then we must be happy to have taken five points and be unbeaten in our last three. We'll now re-group and get ready for Tottenham next weekend.”
