With the club desperate for cash to settle bills a quick fix would be to sell players. Adam Matthews has long been linked with several Premier League clubs and there is value in players like Chopra, McCormack, Bothroyd and Whittingham.
Joe Ledley's surgey will see him stay at Cardiff City until the end of the season when he is then out of contract.
Ross McCormack has been linked with a move to Celtic.
McCormack told the Sunday Mail: "I'm happy at Cardiff and focusing on getting the club into the Premiership.
"But everyone knows I'm a massive Celtic fan. I had a season ticket for Parkhead and always said I'd like to play for them at some point.
"Going there would interest any player."
Let's hope that Dave Jones' (and more importantly Peter Ridsdale's) phone doesn't ring with an offer for a player.
