Wigan storm ahead, Crewe are wobbling. Div 2 review.

Last updated : 02 March 2003 By Michael Morris
A weel ago we were 5 points behind Crewe with a game in hand and facing three away games in a row with Crewe having three home games.

Now only 8 days later we are only 1 point behind and still with a game in hand. City with a win at Port Vale and a point yesterday at Stockport, have moved closer to Crewe who have lost the first two of their home treble. Both 0 - 1, to Wigan last Tuesday and to a 90th minute Leon McKenzie goal by Peterborough yesterday.

Part three of the trilogy comes as soon as this Tuesday. Cardiff are at Brentford while Crewe entertain Wycombe.

Wigan extended their lead at the top to 15 points over Crewe and 16 over City, we can get to within 13 points with our game in hand but lets be honest, they way City and Crewe have dropped points lately there is no way Wigan are going to be caught.

Just behind City are Oldahm, amazingly they still have an unbeaten away record this season, they again pulled a late goal out of the hat to earn three points at Mansfield. Oldham are 1 point behind having played a game more than City.

Bristol City also won yesterday, 3 - 1 at home to Cheltenham. Bristol are 4 points behind City having played a game more. They are not out of it yet.

QPR in 6th place lost at Swindon yesterday. City have a 9 point lead over Rangers and a game in hand.

So to sum up.

Wigan will win the league.

Crewe, Cardiff, Oldham and Bristol City are in the hunt for the second spot with the other three in the play offs.

Luton, Tranmere, Blackpool and QPR are aiming for the last play off place.

At the bottom Stockport's point was not enough to stop them from dropping into the relegation zone along with Mansfield, Northampton and Chesterfield.
