Weymouth 3 - 0 Cardiff City

Jason Byrne and Kevin Cooper were the old men of the team that faced Weymouth at the Wessex Stadium on Tuesday night.. Other players with first team experience we Matt Green, Darcy Blake and the impressive Aaron Ramsey. The starting line up and squad was then made up of youngsters.

Weymouth is not that difficult to get to if the roads are OK. Get stuck behind a caravan or a combine harvester on the wrong stretch of road and you are knackered.

Just over a couple of hours after leaving South Wales and we'd passed Yeovil and we dropping down into Weymouth. The Wessex Stadium is quite a tidy ground. I'd guess about a 6,000 capacity and tonight it saw 1263 fans. Abouth 40 or so supporting Cardiff City. We had a Wrexham shirt and a West Ham shirt in the City end as well.

A couple of the lads who used the local taxi firms to get them to the ground were both asked if Robbie Fowler was playing. Too soon for him I know but it would have been a boost if he could have been there, just to sign autographs. Maybe a couple of first team members as well would have made it more of an occasion for both sets of fans.

As you can tell I'm avoiding talking about the game. Ramsey and Blake worked hard in central midfield. Ramsey really does look the part. Unfortunately the rest of the team didn't come up to their standards and it was disappointing to see Byrne and Green up front have poor games.

Weymouth scored from a rebounded penalty (much like the one Feeney scored at Yeovil), an o.g. and a third goal that was blasted into the roof of the net at the far post when it looked like it might run wide.

Twice in the first half City forced saves from the Weymouth keeper and once from a free kick in the second half was the home custodiam severely tested.

The second half saw many subs but it did not stop Weymouth from being the dominant team and they fully deserved their victory.

The journey home was quicker as the roads of Dorset and Somerset were nice and quiet and allowed us to keep a decent pace. No trouble on the M5 or the bridge and we were back in Wales before midnight.

Here are a dozen or so pics from the evening.
