The Danish striker hopes to overcome and ankle injury picked up during training. The knock has seen him miss most of City's pre season games after scoring on his first outing at Forest Green.
Andrew Taylor is suspended and it's looking like Declan John will be given his first ever league start for City. Last season he made two appearances in the cup but is set to make his league debut in the Premier League.
Based on Malky's line up against Bilbao last week it looks as though skipper Mark Hudson will be on the bench with Steve Caulker and Ben Turner in defence. And at right back it looks as though Malky will favour Matt Connolly over new signing John Brayford.
Midfield will see the first appearance of Gary Medel in a City shirt. The Bluebirds record signing joined the club last week and is match fit after playing for Seville a week ago at Man Utd and for Chile in midweek.
It's expected he will join a midfield five along with Craig Bellamy, Kimbo, Peter Whittingham and maybe (based on last weeks friendly) Tommy Smith.
Fraiser Campbell will be the striker.
So City possible:
Marshall, Connolly, John, Caulker, Turner, Medel, Whittingham, Kimbo, Bellamy, Smith and Campbell.
Malky has the option of using Noone or Conway wide right instead of Smith. And has the regularity of Don Cowie if needs be as well. Nicky Maynard would love the chance to run out against his former club.
West Ham's new signings Stewart Downing and Razvan Rat are both set to make their debuts against Cardiff at Upton Park.
Downing's arrival from Liverpool leaves Hammers manager Sam Allardyce with a decision to make over who starts on the left wing, with Matt Jarvis also in contention.
West Ham will be without Andy Carroll (ankle), with Modibo Maiga set to start up front.
Former Bluebird James Collins will miss out through injury.
This is Cardiff's first game at this level in 51 years. It's been a very long summer. Time for the action to begin.
