The biggest day of our City supporting lives will come on May 25th. Cardiff have not enjoyed a stadium final since 1927 and 2003 could become nearly as famous. Not quite, the FA Cup is the FA Cup and that is history forever but in my lifetime and that of the majority of City fans we have not had such a stage to play on.
Family reasons meant I watched the game on TV tonight and it was with my family that I openly cried at the final whistle, the scenes on TV were amazing, City fans in full voice, Sam, Lennie, the players are in joyous mood.
City earned their reward, Bristol threw the lot at them, Christian Roberts shot straight at Alexander, Docherty missed a sitter of a header and the Wurzels had a lot of posession.
Cardiff did have a couple of chances in the first half. Earnie twice went close with spectacular efforts and Kav nearly scored from a corner.
Second half Bristol pressed more but became more desperate. Alexander had hands like glue all night and Daniel Gabbidon produced a man of the match performance that had the commentators purring.
The match turning incident came when Brian Tinnion found space in the box and his goal bound header produced the save of the season from Neil Alexander.
Cardiff held out, defending resolutely. For me at home it was hell, I could not sit down, then I could not stand up. I wanted a drink but then felt sick. It has been the most emotional few days of my life and we are not promoted yet.
Tonight was a night that you will remember forever. When asked in years to come Where were you when Kennedy was shot? you may struggle to remember, if asked Where were you when City qualified for the play off final? you will have that information at the front of your brain.
Sunday May 25th, 3:00pm. Millennium Stadium, Cardiff.
Ticket news to follow but you can be sure there will 30,000+ City fans scrambling for tickets.
