Nothing is ever simple with Cardiff City. We stand tonight on top of the second division. Bar two seasons in the old second division this is the highest league position we have had in nearly 20 years. Cause for celebration? Not right at this moment, for now their is a mass gnashing of teeth and the disbelief that we conceeded a goal in the 95th minute of a match that was signalled to have three minutes of injury time. Just wait until the conspiracy theorists work out the referee was from Gloucestershire, a fact that renders him a West Country resident, same as our opponents.
City started well, Earnie scored after 2 minutes. A Paul Wotton free kick from the best part of 35 yards levelled matters on 8 minutes and Plymouth were unlucky not to lead after Alexander made two fine saves and had the fortune to see the post come to his rescue. The game was lively and a crowd of 11,606 were being treted to an exciting game of football.
Earnie silenced the home fans with a header on 67 mins and City were heading for the top in style. The 90 mins were up and the City fans were willing the referee to blow up. The 4th official had signalled 3 mins injury time. 1 minute passed, then 2 and 3. City gave away a corner, it was scrambled away for another corner, by now 4 mins had elapsed, by the time Coughlan scored for Plymouth 4 mins 50 seconds has been played over the 90 mins. OK you can accept 30 secs either way but nearly 2 minutes. Pathetic.
So on a day that should be a celebration it all turned sour. Lennie Lawrence was sent off from the bench after the Plymouth goal was scored. The City players look depressed as they warmed down after the game.
Just writing this makes me feel a little better though, it's off my chest.
But sit back, look at the table. We are top of the league say we are top of the league.
City have extended their away league record to 12 games unbeaten and we have a chance to secure our lead when we entertain Crewe on Saturday.
