A number of names have been linked with Cardiff City this week, including Christian Doidge and David McGoldrick, with most if not all of them most likely just media speculation.
One deal has been completed and there will be more during January. Liam Feeney is the first completed signing. His loan spell has been extended until the end of the season.
But Neil Warnock is after one big signing in particular and no one knows who his target is.
Talkin to the media on Friday ahead of City's FA Cup tie with Mansfield Warnock revealed he has a No.1 target, and his name has not been mentioned during speculation.
"You’ve got to have 3 or 4 targets to come up with one. We’re still talking about my No.1 target. I’d love to sign the lad, I’ve been after him since the end of last season and I didn’t get any encouragement but he’d probably be our record signing since I’ve been here. I’m trying to get that over the line and then I’m looking at other players.
"Nobody has mentioned my main target, I’d love a top class midfield player if I’m honest. Someone who’d fit into the way we play and who’d make us better. We can’t just rely on poor old Joe (Ralls) to get us out of the cart. That’s a priority and then obviously a striker as we’ve lost Danny Ward. No names, it’s really touch wood, we’ve kept it all in house. Not even any rumours from you guys."
