"I need to be playing football," he told the Western Mail
"I don't want to finish my career sitting on the bench. I don't want to get in the way of James and Gabbs, but, if that means I'm not needed, then I will look elsewhere.
Vidmar is hoping to play in the Wolrd Cup in Germany in 2006. Australia are closing in on possible qualification and Vidmar knows he must be playing regular football to be considered for the National squad.
"If I wasn't involved in the national team then I would look at the situation differently," he continued.
"But being involved in a World Cup would be the ultimate achievement for me. I've come so close to making it to the World Cup. I think I've played well for the national team. I've come this far, I'm not going to let it go now.
"I've spoken to Frank Farina (the Australian coach) and he wants me playing first-team football.
Vidmar's City contract expires at the end of this season.
