Now a couple of years on and he's playing for Bristol City and it's the fixture against Cardiff he's looking forward to.
Trundle has spent some time on the bench during his first season at Championship level. He's not been a first choice for Gary Johnson.
"Cardiff would be a nice game in which to come back," said Trundle, who spent four seasons playing for fierce Welsh rivals Swansea. "I'd love to score against Cardiff."
"That was the first fixture I looked for when I signed for Bristol."
"It's been hard, because I came here to play every week and I want to be starting games. But all I can do is keep working hard. The rest is up to the manager."
City boss Johnson, has consistently backed his big summer signing to come good.
"It's been difficult for Lee, but he's got his confidence back and he's looking more like the player I signed.
"He's full of tricks and has that ability to make space when there is none and do the unexpected.
"We've seen that in the last few games when he's come on and made a difference."
Make no mistake, at Ashton Gate on Saturday Trundle is going to get some serious stick. (Hopefully he won't get the last laugh).
