Cardiff City's name has cropped up a couple of times during the morning. There was a claim that Jay Emanuel Thomas could be recalled by Arsenal after an injury to Samir Nasri but Dave Jones has said he will not be recalled based on the terms of the loan.
Preston have revealed that Cardiff made a bid by fax for keeper Andy Lonergan.
Preston Chairman Maurice Lindsay said: "We've turned down a bid from Cardiff for Lonergan - they didn't have the confidence to ring us up, we got a fax from them."
Faxing is still quite common though.
At the highest level Liverpool are resisting a £50m bid from Chelsea for Fernando Torres. As insurance Liverpool are eported to have made a £30m bid to Newcastle for Andy Carroll. There is a fear if those two huge signings go through that Newcastle might re-ignite their interest in Jay Bothroyd and pay to take him to the North East with a late cash offer.
There have been other Championship moves with Paul Konchesky joining Nottingham Forest on loan from Liverpool and another Liverpool player, Daniel Ayalla has joined Derby County on loan.
Middlesbrough have signed Bayern Munich defender Maximilian Haas while Scunthorpe have taken striker Joe Garner on loan from Nottingham Forest for the rest of the season.
