Thompson has finger trouble

It's reported he cut himself while slicing an apple and has to have surgery to re-join a nerve.

'Steve goes in for an operation tomorrow,' Dave Jones told the Echo.

'A nerve in a finger has to be stitched back with micro-surgery.

'We were hoping he would get away without an operation, but he has been told that if he doesn't have surgery he could lose the feeling in the finger for good.

'We will have to wait until after the operation to see whether he will be fit to play against Stoke.'
