"We have worked hard all season, including our pre-season, to be in the mix come this stage.
"We are not ruling automatic promotion out as, with so many points to play for, anything is possible.
"I wouldn't be here or doing my job correctly if I didn't believe or get the players to believe it is possible to go up automatically.
"It's about getting as many points on the board as you can at this stage of the season.
"Southampton have just lost two and they're at home now, they'll want to put things right. But we want to get something from the game.
"People are saying if we go there and win then Southampton will be out of it, but they won't be. It's eight clubs fighting for the six places up for grabs.
"Everybody seems to be killing each other off at the minute and even the two top spots are still in contention.
"If you go on a run, winning three or four games, the fact that we're all playing each other means we're taking points off each other. So it's not out of anybody's reach at the moment.
"Everyone's talking about Sunderland finishing in the top two, but they're only four points ahead of us. You look at that until you run out of games to get in the top two. Then everyone left under that will be fighting for the play-off spots.
"At this moment in time everything is still wide open.

"It won't be easy because Cardiff are a very good footballing side side. They had a poor run but have played very well of late and have come on strong again.
"They beat Preston convincingly and were unfortunate to lose at Birmingham on a tricky pitch and I will be looking for my players to show the hunger to win the match.
"This week is not quite make-or-break but we really have to look for six points from these two games because we have ground to make up.
"Our home form has been excellent. We have shown consistency and good quality and, with the fans right behind us, we need to keep that going tonight.
"We need to keep positive and keep playing because we need to win these home games if we are going to be in the top six at the end of the season."
