St Mirren friendly called off.

Last updated : 23 May 2002 By Michael Morris
Cardiff City were due to play St Mirren on Tuesday July 23rd while Millwall were due on Saturday July 27th.

Cardiff's remaining two fictures are against Clyde on Fridday July 26th and at Motherwell on Sunday July 28th. There is no news yet regarding these fixtures but it's thought the local police are unhappy that Cardiff, Millwall and Birmingham are all due in the Glasgow area at the same time.

St Mirren and Millwall have already issued statements.

St Mirren said

After due consderation and consultation with the local Police, the
previously announced home friendlies against Cardiff City and
Millwall have been cancelled.

This leaves one remaining friendly against Norwich City on 13 July at
the time of this article. The club is looking to replace the
cancelled matches with other fixture(s) and will advise such
arrangements in due course.
While Millwall have declared

St Mirren have called off the pre-season friendly against The Lions
scheduled for Saturday 27th July after consultation with their local
police.
Concerns were raised following the events of May 2nd, and the fact
that Birmingham City and Cardiff City are in Scotland at the same
time undoubtedly inflenced the decision. St Mirren were also
scheduled to face the Welsh side and that game has been called-off as
well.
Last summer Mark McGhee's pre-season preparations were disrupted
following the cancellation of three matches in Germany and history
looks like repeating itself.
Once again, it would seem that the criminal element which has become
associated with the name of Millwall has succeeded in damaging the
club on the field as well as off it.
