'It's no good, I had an injection before the game to help it settle down but I knew within five to 10 minutes it was not working," he told the Echo.
'It started to get sore and I would not have done myself or the team any justice if I had carried on any further.
'I have had a slight tear on the groin and while that has healed, I have had other problems around that area which have affected me.
'I have to be honest with myself, the physio, the manager, the players and the supporters.
'It has come to a point where I have to say 'no, I can't do it'.
'A scan is now needed, I will see a specialist about it and go from there but it doesn't look great.
'Over the last two weeks, I've only done light training until last Friday, but in a match situation it simply broke down.
'I'm gutted to be honest - I've tried to get through it, but I need time for it to settle down and I'm not the most patient of people.'
Hopefully Riccy can play again as City hope to secure a play off place.
