HAMMAM: WHY I SOLD EARNIE
SAM HAMMAM last night broke his silence on the controversial £3.5m sale of Robert Earnshaw, explaining he needed the money to strengthen the team.

And the Cardiff City owner dropped another bombshell on disgruntled Bluebirds fans by refusing to rule out the prospect of star defender Danny Gabbidon following Earnie out of the Ninian Park door.

Hammam is under fire for selling Wales striker Earnshaw to West Brom after consistently saying he and Gabbidon would not be transferred.

But Hammam, in his first interview since accepting West Brom's offer, explaining his reasoning behind the U-turn.

Hammam knows he needs to draft in reinforcements, with the ailing Bluebirds second-bottom in the Coca-Cola Championship.

And with the club channelling resources into building a new stadium, Hammam said the only way to raise the cash was by selling Earnshaw.

"We need to strengthen in a number of positions. We need three or four new players," explained Hammam.
