After the long haul of 37 games we appear to be heading for a sprint finish in the race for the Premiership.
Nine games to go and City sit in 6th place. A position I'm sure we would have all take at the start of the season. Can we push on now and consolidate that play off place and even still challenge the top two?
Well I think we will still be in with a mathmatical chance of automatic promotion for a few games yet but whether we have a realistic challenge should become a lot clearer after the next three games.
We are at Southampton tonight, away at Derby on Saturday and then a fortnight later we welcome the form team, Sunderland.
I think then with 6 games to go we can realistically see where we can finish this season.
City play a Southampton team who have lost their last two matches, Cardiff have moved ahead of the Saints and could open a 6 point gap with victory at St Mary's.
Like City Southampton are grateful to excellent home form, Southampton have lost just twice all season on home turf. They have notched 11 wins and 5 draws from their 18 games played. Add to that Cardiff have not won at Southampton for 45 years, it's been 43 years since we picked up a point from a Southampton team on the South Coast.
Time to break a record or two I think.
Kick off tonight is at 7:45pm.
