Former Bluerbird Roger Johnson is set to complete his move from Birmingham City to Wolves today for a fee of around £7m.
It takes Johnson back to the Premier League after being relegated with Birmingham City.
The transfer has brought a comment from Dave Jones. There hasn't been a peep from Jones since leaving Cardiff City but he has spoken to the press in the West Midlands to give his thoughts on Johnson.
Jones told The Express and Star: “Roger is a model pro who will be a super buy for Wolves – I think he will improve the team.
“He’s a very determined character and I don’t see any reason why he can’t play for England while he’s at Wolves.
“The more he plays in the Premier League, he will only become more knowledgeable in his game and improve further.
“He’s got four or five years ahead of him at Wolves where he’ll be in his pomp, and because he’s got that desire, he still wants to learn.”
Jones believes Wolves are getting a leader as well as a genuine defender.
He said: “Roger is a good leader, a talker, a hollerer and a shouter – he doesn’t suffer fools gladly but he will get around the dressing room and get people going.
“He’s a very low maintenance player who gives high levels of performance. He’s a good defender who is a very strong header of the ball – he very rarely misses it in the air defensively or attacking-wise.
“But he’s a tough centre-half who can also play as well. And he can score goals – he’s a strong player who has a knack of getting on the end of things.
“The other thing is his consistency – he’s a very solid player who gets seven out of 10 every week.
“He doesn’t get six out of 10 very often because he doesn’t drop below the high levels he sets for himself. For me, he’s Mr Consistency.
“He was a player Cardiff should never have let go but he got the chance to play in the Premier League and the finances dictated.
“The club had to sell him because they needed the money.”
