Neil Warnock expects that Rickie Lambert will be ready to play again after the international break.
Lambert was injured when colliding with Nottingham Forest keeper Vladimir Stojkovic last weekend.
Warnock explained earlier this week just how bad it saying
"I don't know how cuts heal but it looked horrific.
"I had to get one or two of the lads out - I didn't want them looking at it at half time in a game like that.
"The cut is that deep they're just worried about whether there's any ligament damage because it's severed right through to his shin. It's terrible."
But speaking today ahead of the Wigan Atrhletic game there was an update from the boss.
"I don’t think Rickie has a chance at all [for Wigan]. He’ll see the surgeon tomorrow. He’s had, I think three stitches inside the cut and nine or ten outside. He'll be seeing him tomorrow to work out what he can do.
"He'll definitely be OK after the international break but we don't know if he'll be OK for Newcastle."
