"I can't do the Ayatollah to the City fans - it's impossible," Kav said
"Look, of course I want to thank them after the game and salute them for the time I had with the club, that goes without saying.
Graham Kavanagh, love him or hate him as a City player represented a move to the big time. He was our first £million signing and at his best is one of the most accomplished midfielders in this division. His transfer to Wigan shocked all City fans, it was so sudden with Kav being taken by helicopter from Cardiff.
Now he returns as a team player with Wigan. They are hoping for a move to the Premiership but defeat at Ninian Park will probably mean they will have to do it through the play offs if they are to make it.
Graham Kavanagh after failure with Stoke managed to get his big play off success while at Cardiff. He led the Bluebirds in 2003 to promotion at the Millennium Stadium.
Wigan have lost their last two games, crucially the last one against Sunderland who, barring a gigantic collapse, look good for automatic promotion after the Wigan win. Another defeat for Wigan and a result for Ipswich will probably mean play offs for Wigan.
"This is a massive game for both clubs, you simply cannot build this game up above the status it already has," Kav continued.
"Games are running out for the clubs for different reasons and let me stress we need the win as desperately as Cardiff do.
"I've counted the days and the weeks for this one. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't. And yes, I'm ready to play my heart out for Wigan - as I did for Cardiff."
So City fans, show your appreciation for the work Kavanagh did for City after the game, give him a cheer of course but with a 17,000+ crowd expected we have a duty as City fans to support Cardiff City and not Graham Kavanagh, give him a warm welcome and then a torrid 90 mins. We can be nicey nicey afterwards again.
