Injuries have taken their toll though and Robinson has cancelled his contract as not to take the money for doing nothing.
"John had injuries and is an honest lad as he could have sat here for one more month and taken his wages," said Gillingham chairman Paul Scally. "But he thought it was wrong to take money from the club he was not earning.
“His contract has been cancelled. I respect his honesty and told him he is welcome to use our facilities any time he wishes."
Gillingham come to Cardiff on Saturday for a relegation scrap that Robinson would not have played in anyway. That was part of the agreement that took him to the Kent club.
Gillingham have also lost their caretaker boss today. After 1 game in charge John Gorman has left to take over the managers job at Wycombe Wanderers.
As is stands now Gills, and former Wales, striker Iwan Roberts could be in charge of the team.
"It looks as if I'll be taking charge of the team until a new man is appointed and, if that doesn't happen before the weekend, I've told the club I'll be more than happy to stand in the dugout at Cardiff," Roberts told the Western Mail.
"I don't want the job full-time - firstly out of respect to Andy, who was a big factor in me joining Gillingham, and secondly, because I don't feel I'm ready for it. It would be too early in my career to take on a manager's job.
"But I don't mind taking charge on a temporary basis. There's not really anyone else here who could do it."
