QPR manager Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink refused to get carried away despite watching his side go top of the Sky Bet Championship with a 2-0 win at Cardiff.
Second-half goals from Steven Caulker and a Tjaronn Chery penalty clinched a second successive win.
The result saw Hasselbaink's side move ahead of Bristol City at the top of the fledgling table on goal difference having beaten Leeds 3-0 on the opening weekend.
He said: "All I'm concentrating on is this game, how we played and how we can do better. We have to try and take that into next week.
"Defensively we were flawless but we have to try and impose ourselves more in attack and be even more dominant.
"I want us to become a stronger force in that area, but in general I was very pleased with how the game went and to come away with a win.
"We just want to move forward while being respectful to all the other clubs. We have to look at ourselves and how we can become better as a team, though today we were very good.
"The strikers didn't get a lot of joy but they kept working hard for the team and that earned us a penalty late on.
"Now we have to make sure we are always at that level and then we will give ourselves a great chance to win games."
Caulker broke the deadlock when he headed in Jake Bidwell's free-kick in the 76th minute.
Rangers doubled their lead after Bruno Ecuele-Manga hauled down Sebastian Polter in the penalty area five minutes from time.
Chery netted from the spot to score for the second game in a row to clinch all three points and top spot.
New Cardiff boss Paul Trollope is still waiting for his first win since taking over from Russell Slade in the summer, and he said: "It's hugely disappointing to lose our first home game of the season.
"It's frustrating because we were in the ascendancy and managed to take control of the game early on but we didn't create any real chances. We got up field but didn't do our business around the box.
"Then we dipped in the second period and when that happens you have to be resolute and do the nitty-gritty to keep them out, but we didn't do that.
"We didn't think our goal was under too much threat. QPR came at us in the second half and pushed us back, but it's very disappointing to concede two goals from set-plays.
"They were both from poor decisions by our defenders, firstly to concede the free-kick for the first goal in an innocuous position.
"Then, when you're hoping to find a way back, the defender [Manga] lunged in with the player's back to him, so we can't argue with the penalty decision."
