Uniteds assistant manager Geraint Williams told CU-FC.com
"Spencer is looking to get fit for pre-season and has asked to come in and train with us. It also gives us the opportunity to take a closer look at him and see what he might be able to offer us."
Spencer has had talks with Southend but does not want to drop to Coca Cola League 2 (Division 3). There was also talk he could join Andy Legg at Peterborough.
Best of luck to Spencer whatever he decides.
Speaking of Andy Legg he has signed a new 2 year contract at London Rd. Boss Barry Fry told the Peterborough official website
"I am delighted Andy has signed a new two-year contract, a deal he was always going to agree to. Andy is a very important part of this football club.
"As well as having an outstanding second half of the season on the pitch he is also a part of my management team. I am delighted Andy has committed his future to us."
Gavin Gordon is due to complete his move to Notts County today and Mark Bonner has already signed a two year deal at Oldham after his initial contract until the end of last season.
