Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson knows his team has a battle to face against Cardiff today but he knows that shocks can happen. Speaking ahead of the trip to Cardiff Ferguson said:
“They were magnificent,” said Ferguson (on City's win at Blackburn). “It was the best performance I have seen from any team this season.
“We will have to cope with their energies, work ethic and big players. They are going very well a the moment, there is no doubt about that.
“Cardiff have come close to promotion a couple of times, but what Malky has instilled in them is a winning mentality. That is the type of character he is.
“Yes, we know Malky has had lots of money to spend, but we have seen time and time again that doesn’t always work. He has instilled belief.”
But Ferguson warned: “Cardiff have got to be beaten at home some time ... and this might just be one of those games that turns our own season.
“No-one expects us to win, bottom against top, a team going very well playing at home. Yet it might be one of those days.
“I’ve seen this sort of thing many times, and particularly in this league. Anyone can beat anyone... we know we can do that to Cardiff on our day.
Malky Mackay is not letting his side become complacent as they aim for an eleventh straight home win. Peterborough come to CCS rock bottom of the Championship with Cardiff flying high at the top.
“Every week bottom beats top, every week you cannot predict every result, there’s always one that makes you think, ‘where did that one come from?’
“If you do that in this league you are going to get bitten on a regular basis. There is absolutely no complacency.
“You have to work as hard for your points against teams at the bottom as you do against those at the top.
“If you don’t do that you will be also-rans in this league.
“The minute you start judging whether you are going to win or not by the league table you are in trouble. Forget it.
“We have planned and prepared in our usual way. We have to make sure we go out there and beat Peterborough.
“No one is going to get carried away here.”
