The former Wolves and Perugia striker is yet to get a goal in the four games since his move to Wales at the beginning of last month.
He again failed to find the back of the net as the Severnside derby between Cardiff and Bristol City finished goalless leaving both sides with their unbeaten records intact.
The Bluebirds had most of the early play but could not find the killer touch in front of goal.
Robins striker Nicky Maynard almost secured victory when he flashed a second-half shot against the angle with Cardiff keeper Tom Heaton beaten.
"We played some good football today in what was an exciting derby match," said Jones.
"We played well without finishing off any of the chances we created in the first half but both defences came out on top.
"The atmosphere created by both set of supporters was superb and although we applied a lot of pressure we were unable to make it count.
"Jay Bothroyd had a couple of chances early on and I am sure he will start putting them away very soon."
Gavin Rae was a surprise inclusion in the home starting line-up while leading scorer Ross McCormack was on the bench with a slight groin strain.
Paul Parry, who retired from international football this week, had the first attempt on goal in the sixth minute and that was followed by Bothroyd working his way through only to fire straight at Adriano Basso in the visitors goal.
Then Joe Ledley raced clear only to send his low drive into the side netting.
Parry was narrowly wide with a looping header and then Ledley had Basso scrambling across his line to hack clear.
The Bluebirds were almost caught out when Maynard's shot struck the crossbar but the half finished with Cardiff having the better play.
Maynard should have put his side ahead in the 52nd minute after Cardiff full-back Miguel Comminges appeared to have been fouled.
The former Crewe striker was allowed to run on towards goal and his low shot was on its way into the corner of the net before Heaton brilliantly palmed it past the post.
"A draw was probably a fair result," said Robins manager Gary Johnson. "Both teams tried to win it and Cardiff started well but I am satisfied with a point.
"These games are always very close just like all the matches in the Championship.
"Both sets of players committed themselves fully, defenders have to be on form and that is what happened today.
"It would be nice to win 5-0 every game but this is the Championship and every game is like a cup final for us."
Cardiff now travel to Barnsley looking to add a second win of the season following four successive draws.
