The season might be kicking off on Saturday but Cardiff are far from finished in the transfer market.
Speaking at an open training session on Thursday Chief Exec Ken Choo said that he expects a busy end to August, but getting rid of players could be the key to getting new faces in.
“Everything is still up in the air we have a few targets to go but it also depends on players leaving. It is not just incoming, we should see players leaving that we feel should move on.
“I will not name names but there is interest in some and we are talking, but they have value in them so we have to look at the best deal for the club. We will not sell them on the cheap.
“We can't put a number of players we want in because it depends on players going out too, but we could see a lot more movement in the last week of August when the transfer window is about to close because that is usually when a lot of the interesting things and offers come in.
“At this point in time it is still quite quiet but there is interest.”
Choo revealed that owner Vincent Tan is looking for steady, organised progress rather than just throwing millions at it.
He said: “We are trying to improve on the last two seasons, but progressively rather than just pumping in £15m. We're trying to do it in stages. Previously things have not been as smooth but in the last two years we have tried to make more sensible decisions. Vincent is taking his time and studying things a lot more and is learning.
"This is his seventh season so he is making the right decisions. He identified the structure of the coaching team with Paul before the Euros, so he knows what he is doing. It is not as if Wales have been successful and then identified Paul. He is doing more homework.
“But we want play-offs, and promotion – because there is no point being in the play-offs without being promoted. That is the target. There is no owner in the Championship who wants to stay there, they want to get promoted.
“It's a big weekend for us. Paul is doing well and you can see with the new coaching staff the discipline level has increased significantly. The boys are very happy with the configuration of the coaching team.”
