Murray has now decided to sell the unique memorabilia.
Cardiff won the first leg thanks to a goal from Brian Clarke. City can always look back at the record books and see the scoreline
Cardiff City 1 - 0 Real Madrid
but the Spaniards won the return 2 - 0 to knock City out of the competition.
'It was a huge match in the history of Cardiff City and I was tremendously proud to captain the side," Murray told the Echo.
'We won the first leg but we knew it was going to be difficult at Madrid.
'Unfortunately, we went down 2-0, but the team was absolutely magnificent.'
The shirt has spent some time on display at Ninian Park but now Murray has it back and he's going to sell it.
'It's been in my drawer since I had it back from the club,' said Murray.
'For some time it had been on display at Ninian Park in the John Charles Suite.
'I'm officially going to retire this month so it seems like the right time to sell it.
'I'm not sure what the interest will be like in it.
'Perhaps the shirt will attract attention from someone overseas. I would like it to go to someone who has an appreciation of the game, someone who enjoys football. That would be nice.'
There has been a lot of interest in the shirt from both Cardiff and Madrid. There is currently one bid that has matched the reserve price of £1500.00 from a Cardiff City supporter, he is the currenty highest bidder. The auction ends on Thursday August 31st at 9.26pm.
