"It has moved on a bit with Gregan. We have a desire to sign him and the boy wants to come here," Lawrence told the Western Mail.
"We've got to negotiate a price with West Brom. If the price is too big then we're not doing it. I've got a reasonable amount of money for Gregan. The price has to be right. The days of Cardiff paying over the odds are long gone.
"We might do a deal by the end of the week - but I don't think it will happen."
On the other side of the coin Gary Megson is in the Midlands press today saying
"Nobody is going to manufacture a transfer by talking on behalf of our club. If Cardiff or anyone else are interested then they should to get on and make a bid.
"We have had an inquiry about Sean from Cardiff, but no bid. We have had inquiries from three First Division clubs.
"But I am not going to talk about who will be staying and who will be allowed to leave."
So we are no nearer to knowing if Sean Gregan is coming or when. Of course we are not sure of the exact developments. This one could run and run or out of the blue there will be a press conference and he'll be a City player.
