"Steve has gone to hospital," confirmed Dave Jones who also saw Darcy Blake and Jay Bothroyd subbed through injury.
"He is breathing okay but he's had a bang in the same place he had a knock before in the area of the pancreas so we've got to make sure that is right."
Michael Chopra and Gabor Gyepes came through the game despite a bout of illness but it's Bothroyd and McPhail who are causing most concern with unconfirmed reports Bothroyd has damaged ligaments and may be out for a few weeks.
City can ill afford (excuse the pun) to lose any more players with Joe Ledley and Gavin Rae also out injured.
City face two big matches in the coming week. Chelsea away on Saturday and more crucially West Brom at home next Tuesday. With no money to bring in new players it's all available hands to the decks on the good ship Cardiff City at the moment.
In fairness the off field nightmares are masking the amazing job Dave Jones is doing at the moment to see his side 4th in the table, clear water back to the edge of the play off places and competng for a place in the last 8 of the FA Cup.Just how long can these players keep producing?
