Speaking after the game McPhail praised the way Swansea played and declared that he should not have received his sencond yellow card as he'd won the tackle. The referee, Alan Wiley, had though previously warned the Irishman that he was pushing his luck with some of his challenges and it came as no surprise to see the red card brandished.
"People will be quick to put us down after this, but we will not allow that to happen," said the midfielder.
"We have been magnificent in the last two league encounters and were eight games unbeaten."
But McPhail did concede his team's shortcomings at the Liberty.
"We were chasing shadows and running back and fore too often," he added.
"To be fair, Swansea played some good football with five across the middle and one up front and it is hard to try and boss the game up against that formation.
"In the end the difference was a deflected free kick. But we need to keep going in the league now and try to stay unbeaten for as long as we can."
On his dismissal, which will rule him out of Saturday's clash with Birmingham, McPhail said: "I pulled away from the first booking and the ref will look at replays and see that I did not touch him.
"It's very frustrating missing out on Saturday because I know I had the ball for the second yellow."
