The defender is one of a number of players entering their final year and the club are now looking to get them re-signed to avoid a Joe Ledley situation where they can leave for free next summer.
News that McNaughton is committing himself is an injection of good news. The club are also talking to Peter Whittingham. There has been interest from Forest and Burnley for last season's top scorer and I think a decent cash offer would see him leave but it's positive that the club are looking to keep their top players.
The Cardiff contracts of striker Jay Bothroyd, midfield trio Stephen McPhail, Gavin Rae and Chris Burke and defensive duo Adam Matthews and Darcy Blake are also due to run out in 12 months time.
"We are looking at some of the players who are set to be out of contract next year," said Jones.
"And once we can clear some of the hurdles we face and get some new bodies in, we can continue to speak with our players.
"Already Kevin McNaughton has agreed to sign a new deal which is positive news."
