Joe Mason has returned to Cardiff City less than 24 hours after Bolton confirmed a loan move for the striker.
Wanderers announced on Monday that the 22-year-old had joined the Championship club until 5 January.
However, Cardiff manager Malky Mackay has now decided that he would like to keep Mason as part of his squad.
Bolton said in a statement: "Joe Mason will remain with Cardiff City following talks between Dougie Freedman and Cardiff boss Malky Mackay.
"It was at the Cardiff manager's request that the striker remained in South Wales."
Kevin McNaughton, on loan at Bolton, has been ruled out for a month with a hamstring injury.
