Speaking to the press ahead of City's opening game v Fulham Russell Slade gave an update on the David marshall situation.
"There is not too much of a latest," said Slade. "There has been no dialogue in recent days between the two clubs so there is no more information.
"The numbers have to be right of we are going to lose him. We all respect him and want him to stay.
"It is financial though, and if the money is right we will have to consider it. The chairman is dealing with it and he will let me know."
Slade went on to suggest that if he wants to spend money on a new player then Marshall may have to go to fund the deal.
“Of course you have to balance the books, don’t you? At the end of the day it’s about finances. It does not necessarily mean we can’t do any signings right now. It does not mean that. But obviously, if you were to target someone of a certain value we would have to look at that seriously in terms of the numbers.
"If the numbers were too high. If we don’t have that finance available then we would not be in a position to move on that despite finding someone we think might be suitable."
Simon Moore starts in goal for City v Fulham as Marshall is suspended for the opening three games of the season after a red card at Forest on the final day of last season.
