"It was frustrating in the first half, but after the break we lacked a bit of quality in the final third," said Hull City manager Phil Brown
We had great opportunities to get into the Cardiff penalty box, but didn't take them.
Everyone seemed to do something for us with the way results went on Tuesday, but tonight was about us doing something for ourselves and we didn't do it.
To find ourselves a goal down so early on against a team that's obviously on the up from getting to the semi-final of the FA Cup was difficult.
But it surprised me how poorly we played compared to recently.
We had to get into the players at half-time and make a few changes to try and get a spark into the team.
But it's not all doom and gloom- we've got Southampton at the KC Stadium, then we've got our game in hand, so hopefully we can stay in that sixth place, if not higher."
Dave Jones on the other hand was the happier manager.
"I knew it was going to be a difficult game after Sunday and that is why I made the changes," said Jones
"They had a lot of possession and we had to work very hard but we never in any danger.
"I would have liked us to keep hold of the ball a little longer but defensively we have been very solid and the lads have worked hard.
"We have moved up the table with that win and now we look forward to our next game at Colchester."
