"If we repeat that second half performance, then the relegation battle will go right down to the wire. We'd face a 'final-day' scenario.

"It was a demoralising defeat. I don't think we've been done like that since we lost 3-1 at Ipswich way back in August.

"I didn't have too many complaints at half time, but after the first goal went in we committed football suicide. Defensively, we've been good recently but not on this occasion.

"But we've got to pick ourselves up quickly for a massively important game at Leicester on Tuesday night. We simply have to get something from that match. If we don't, we'll need to conjure up wins against Reading and Gillingham to prevent it going down to the final day."

"We contributed to our own downfall. The only plus point is Neil Alexander pulled off some terrific saves, and that's saying something."

"Cardiff have got some very good players and showed a lot of energy in the first half.

"I wasn't surprised by Cardiff's performance. I thought they made it difficult for us.

"We knew we had to match their energy levels in the second half and it was important that we did a professional job.

"We performed better in the second period, increased the tempo and scored three goals with some excellent finishing. In the end, I thought my whole team played well from back to front against a very good Cardiff side."
