“I think that in the previous games we showed glimpses of it, and we were unlucky or lacked the quality to score, finish and punish but today it came together.

"We went 2-0 up before the red card and we looked like we were dominant, we did give a chance away early, which could have changed the game but today really was satisfying for the players.

"We had a mixed bag of who scored and the players that came on were effective so I’m just really happy.

“We have found positions that suit our attacking players, where they can express themselves and at the same time be able to defend aggressively as a team. Now they have got to keep that up.

"Rubin [Colwill] was excellent today; his work rate, his energy, his intensity, and it's the same with Ollie [Tanner] and Alex [Robertson]. The boys that came on, they all have the understanding that first we need to work and if we do that we’ll get our reward.

“David [Turnbull] is one of the best technicians we have got in the team and for us it was about maintaining an element of control. I think that he and Alex have done superbly in the middle of the pitch today.”

“Sio [Manolis Siopis] took a knock in the first game against England, then played with it the second game.

"We knew he might not be available today, he dropped out yesterday, he potentially could be back in on Tuesday.

"Joe Ralls won’t be back in at the moment he has to rest his leg. It will probably be a couple of weeks off playing.

"We had Aaron Ramsey upstairs today casting an eye down to give us some information and it all came together well today.

"I said to Aaron yesterday that I'd like him to go up there, cast his eye over the game and if he had anything of importance to come down.

"To be fair, when he came down and mentioned a couple of things, it was what was in our minds anyway which is nice, so we're all on the same page.

"It's important when you've got players like Rallsy (Joe Ralls) and Aaron who are experienced and aren't playing, you have to try and use them in a different way and we did that today."

"It's difficult to put into words. I thought we started the game OK, we had decent control and should be 1-0 up, Michael had a great chance.

"Beyond that we got really sloppy, we gave the ball away a lot, we didn't win tackles or do the basics right.

"In this league, if you don't do that right, you have difficult days like today.

"It's difficult watching it from the stands, you want to be there at the side of the pitch trying to help the team.

"Today we have to give Cardiff a lot of credit, they deserved to win the game, they were the better team."
