Dyche has been given a chance as a manager, a chance he could not turn down.
“Malky wanted me to go with him to Cardiff," he said "and there was a window between when Malky took the job and then a window when they came back and spoke to me.
“Fortunately for me, as it has turned out, Laurence Bassini, the owner (of Watford), got it contact with me and said “look, why do you want to go? Why don't you at least talk to us?”
“We had a conversation with the board and then obviously they had to consider other people and speak to the people and then fortunately for me, they decided on the right man.
“So that was great news and it gives me a chance and a platform to go and experience what it is to be a manager.”
So a turbulent couple of weeks of Championship Manager comes to an end with Forest, West Ham, Cardiff, Watford and Birmingham all appointing their new bosses.
