Speaking after today's goalless draw Mackay said
"Overall I was happy with that. There were parts of the game where we played very well.
"We were playing a Serie A side in Parma who are getting close to their season starting as well. I thought we controlled the game in large parts.
"They were good technically but I thought we pressed them very well and made them make mistakes."
Mackay had to do without Gunnarsson and Kiss today who were both rested and he decided to start with Kenny Miller on the bench.
After making nine signings he now has choices and it's difficult to guess for sure what players will make the starting line up next Sunday at Upton Park.
I think the back five names itself.
Marshall, McNaughton, Gerrard, Hudson, Taylor.
In midfield Whittingham is a cert and I think Malky will select Don Cowie and Craig Conway.
Then we have the three who started up front today - Earnie, Mason and Gestede as well as Miller, Gunnarsson and Kiss challenging for a place.
Will Mackay pack midfield and bring in Gunnarsson and Kiss with maybe Miller the lone striker or will he give Gestede or Mason a baptism of fire in front of the BBC cameras.
"We have got three or four players we will add to that squad of today and we will work with them this week, but we are fairly close," Mackay added.
Interesting times.
