Malaysian investors give Bluebirds backing

It's been a difficult end to the season with City falling short of expectation (unless you have been a long term supporter who always knew we'd blow it - sorry for the cynicism, old habits etc) and seeing Swansea promoted will mean we won't have to look far to see what we could have won.

But after two weeks of reflection Cardiff City are bouncing back. First Dave Jones was sacked to pave the way for a new manager with fresh ideas and he will be backed by Vincent Tan and the overseas investors.

Speaking this morning Gethin Jenkins explained first about Dave Jones:

"The decision was made by the board following a review over the last 10 days into our performance over the season, and looking forward to next season," Jenkins said.

"The board felt, and we all felt when looking at it, that it was time for a change. Dave's contribution to the Club has been fantastic over the past six years, and that should be fully recognised.

"It's a tribute to him how far the Club has come under his tenure that it's now deemed failure and disappointment that finishing fourth in the Championship is not deemed good enough.

"But we looked at things overall, there are a lot of changes with the squad to happen and we thought that this was the right time to make a change in order to have a fresh push for promotion."

What about a new manager?

"We've got several options on the list," Jenkins said.

"We drew up a list yesterday after giving it some thought and we'll now see who's available and who's out there. Anybody in football would expect us to have a list and the phone didn't stop ringing yesterday with representatives pushing their clients forward.

"So we're going to have a look at it and try to set up some interviews in the next few days."

Martin O'Neil has been linked and said by some to have been to Malaysia?

"He might well have been to Malaysia, but as far as I'm aware he hasn't been to see anyone involved from Cardiff," Jenkins said.

"Perhaps he was on holiday there, I don't know. I understand that Martin O'Neill is one of the favourites, but we've got our options and will be meeting people over the next few days.

"He would be on the list of any Club, but whether his financial requirements are the same as ours we'd have to see."

So what of the future. Will a new man be backed? Are the investors in it for the long term?

"All managers, when they come in want to change players and that's all part and parcel of football. We've sat down with our Malaysian investors over the weekend and had some very constructive talks. They're willing to support the team and take us forward, although I'm sure nobody would want me to give full details of the budget available.

"They want to have another go at it. It's going to be a tough league next year, factoring in the three teams coming down. You've also got Reading, Nottingham Forest, Leeds, Leicester and others who'll certainly have a go. But our investors will make money available; they're looking at transfer fees so we can recruit some players and have another push for promotion.

"We'd like someone in as quickly as possible, but we're not going to be bounced or rushed into making a decision. The players come back on July 1 and we obviously need to get someone in place by then. But we'll take a few days now and make the right decisions. As said, Dave's contribution has been fantastic over the past six years and there are some big shoes to fill. We want to make sure that it's the right person who can take the club forward."

Positive words and good to read that we are looking to build and strengthen.
