With Declan John now back at the club we only have nine players out on loan, nine and a half if you include Kenwyne. (To be fair to him, he did score this week as the team he plays for beat somebody else 3-2). Eoin Doyle was the only player to see any Championship action as he had a busy 90 minutes for Preston against MK Dons. He was directly involved in the most bizarre incident of the weekend as Alex Revell suddenly became useful. Doyle won the penalty that led to the MK Dons keeper getting sent off, Revell went in goal and made a stunning save to win his side a point.
After more than 300 minutes without his team conceding a goal, Gillingham manager Justin Edinburgh decided to make a tactical switch after 67 minutes of their game against Walsall in midweek. He went from a back five to a back four and Deji Oshilaja was the man sacrificed. Gillingham promptly went one down in the 68th minute and went on to lose 2-1. That'll learn him. Deji was kicked in the face and had to come off after 35 minutes yesterday as Gillingham lost at home again. Tommy O'Sullivan was another player to be subbed as Newport lost at Stevenage.
Lierse cling on to a crucial top eight spot in Belgium despite a 2-1 defeat at Geel. No goal for Etien Velikonja but there was a rare one for Filip Kiss in an 8-1 cup win for Haugesund in the week. A not so rare yellow card for Filip as they drew 2-2 in the league on Friday.
Goals this week for Matt Green, Javi Guerra and Kenny Miller. Also, goals in successive games for Luke Coulson, who recently joined Eastleigh in the National League on a two and a half year deal. He was a full back here but has been playing further forward recently and it seems to be suiting him. He's apparently been watched by Championship scouts and scored with this 25 yard strike yesterday as Eastleigh move to within a point of the play off places.
