Loan watch

Let's not start in Belgium this week, I hear you begging. Fat chance, especially as Etien Velikonja has been opening yet another can of whoop-ass over there this week. I doubt that Belgium has seen anyone this destructive and explosive since a young Jean-Claude Van Damme came on the scene. Hard Target 2 starring Etien Velikonja? I'm in the queue already. A penalty for him this week as Lierse overturned a one goal deficit to win 3-1. Is it too early to start dreaming about the Belgian play offs again? Here at Loan Watch we dream of little else.

Rhys Healey got his first taste of action for Dundee as a 67th minute sub at Celtic today. Already 4-0 down when he came on, Dundee lost 6-0. Rhys got himself into a good position to open his account but headed his chance over. Another 90 minutes for Kadeem Harris this week as Barnsley drew 1-1 at Blackpool and Eoin Doyle got his first full game for Preston as he helped set up their early goal in a 2-1 defeat at Brentford.

Joe Mason wasn't the only City player sacrificed due to a red card yesterday, the same fate befell Adam le Fondre as Wolves drew 0-0 with Brighton. Tom Adeyemi came on as a late sub as Leeds won 2-1 at MK Dons and Filip Kiss played the 90 minutes in Norway as Haugesund let in a late equaliser to draw 1-1. Deji Oshilaja is due to return from a knee injury next week.

A change of formation led to a place on the bench for David Tutonda on an emotional day at Bootham Crescent. York striker David Longhurst collapsed and died from a heart attack in a game against Lincoln in September 1990 and the club held a tribute to him before yesterday's game with Carlisle as it's now 25 years since that tragic event. His father and brother were guests of the club. With York 2-0 down in the second half and having had a player sent off it looked over but the introduction of three substitutes (including Tutonda) turned the game and York salvaged a point with two goals at the end where Longhurst lost his life and in front of the stand that now bears his name. Very fitting.

Of our ex-players there were goals for Javi Guerra, Magnus Wolff Eikrem and a winner for Andreas Cornelius but pride of place goes to Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink who has led his Burton Albion team to the top of League 1.
