Fourteen men were given custodial sentences of upto 21 months while a 15th was ordered to do community service.

Trouble flared when the Leeds supporters clashed with police last January while Cardiff City fans were kept behind inside Elland Rd after the 1 - 1 draw.

The 15 men jailed were given 8 years bans and there was a five year ban for the 15th man.

Detective Superintendent Phil Sedgwick said after the hearings

"It is the beginning of the new football season and these people are in jail and they won't be going to football for the next eight years."

"It is just exactly what we wanted to send a message to people who commit violence at football matches, or indeed anywhere, that if they commit violence they will be chased, caught and be imprisoned."
