Now he's hoping to help Wales to a victory in Nicosia.
"We had two good results against Bulgaria and Slovakia and I think these two games are both ones that we should be looking to win if we are to have any chance of earning third place," he said.
"That would be a huge boost and would show people just what we are capable of. The higher we finish, the better our seeding will be the next time.
"We are still a young team and we are learning with every game but we have a decent blend of experience as well and it seems to be coming together pretty well at the moment."
He added: "It is good to have a bit of a break from the Championship and to meet up with the boys again. I always love it, and the experience of being involved with this group of players can only be of benefit for me personally.
"It was good to get a win for Cardiff last Saturday, the first home win this season, and I scored for the second game in a row. Hopefully I can add to that here."
