Lawrence not happy with international friendlies

Lennie Lawrence has spoken out about his players and international friendlies.

"Players will be flying around all over the place for meaningless internationals," he told the Western Mail.

"I don't need them at all but there's nothing I can do about it. From the individual players' point of view you want them to go off and enjoy it.

"You don't want to stand in their way. It's a good thing for them whether they're Welsh Irish, Scottish, Australian, Jamaican or whatever.

"But, of course, we've paid an extraordinarily heavy price. Alan Lee was injured training for Ireland and was out for three months. Kav's now virtually back to his best after being out for a month injured playing for Ireland. And it took me six weeks to get Gabbs and Earnie mentally right after the Russia thing.

"I'll be playing particular attention to our performances before and after the international games. They're two very hard games (against West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland) and I've got to think hard about my selection."

City have already had Daniel Gabbidon and Robert Earnshaw called up for Wales for thei game with Scotland on Wednesday Feb 18th. Neil Alexander is waiting to hear if he will be in Bertie Vogt's squad for the same game.

The Irish squad will announced this afternoon for thei game with Brazil next Week. Kav is a likely inclusion but a lack of games may go against Alan Lee.
