Cambridge Utd's Dave Kitson, 23, is said by the Mirror to be near to completing a move to Cardiff.
This website reported in May that Cardiff were linked with the player and it was suggested that the friendly against Cambridge could be part of the deal to bring Kitson to Cardiff. He's a raw young striker and is unproven at 1st Division level. In the 3rd Division he has scored 30 league goals in 80 games. 20 of them last season.

At 28 he's not old but he's struggled with injury and form in recent years. He was hot property in 1997 when Man City paid Pompey £3m for him but he did not live up to his potential. He made a £1.5m move to Crystal Palace before ending up back at Portsmouth. Last season he only played 3 games for Pompey and 11 times when on loan at Sheff Weds, scoring 4 goals in those 14 games, all playedd since last Christmas. Since he returned to Portsmouth in 1999 he's scored 28 league goals in 90 starts.
Lennie has said that Peter Thorne will start the season as Cardiff City's target man. Lennie is looking for quality backup for Peter Thorne. Not a replacement. Gavin Gordon is cover for Thorne at the moment but Lennie is lloking for another quality player. Thorne, unless injured will line up at Millmoor on Aug 9th.
