Kember under pressure as Palace prepare for Bluebirds

There will be no time for sentiment come 3pm on Saturday. Old school chums Lennie Lawrence and Steve Kember will both be looking for 3 points for their respective teams. For Lennie defeat will be upsetting and a set back but for Kember it could be the end of his reign as Palace manager.

The Eagles won their opening three games and were being tipped as promotion contenders but since then it's all gone wrong. The next 7 league games have brought 5 defeats, the latest being at Upton Park last night against London
rivals West Ham.

The fans are not happy, postings on the Palace Messageboard's are calling for him to resign or be sacked if Cardiff win at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

Kember himself says he does not feel any pressure, but his comments came before his side were beaten 3 - 0 last night. He told the Western Mail before the West Ham game

"Supporters demand instant success, that is the way it is," said Kember.

"You understand when you go into football management what can happen. But I want to make this clear - I don't feel under any pressure and our performances do not warrant the results we have been getting recently."

"But I am quietly confident we can turn things around. I have only been in charge, sole charge, for 11 games and we have only lost four of those. Generally the club is, I feel, going in the right direction."

"It does seem hasty that so many managers have lost their jobs so early in the season. But I have no regrets about going into management.

"As I said, I don't feel any pressure. I have sensed a real determination about the players."

Last nights reverse has heaped more pressure on him and a Cardiff win on Saturday would heap a whole load more.
