Graham Kavanagh was the hero as he cooly side footed the ball past a helpless Martin Taylor in the 79th minute, a goal which took the Bluebirds to the top of table after Oldham were held at Port Vale. City had dominated the game but could not find the finishing touch. Peter Thorne could have scored a hattrick as he was foiled by the post, the bar and the keeper.
Earnie was kept quiet by the two big centre halves but it was a good footballing display by City against the cloggers of Wycombe. They defended in numbers and were happy to hoof out but at 0 - 0 they were always a threat and when they broke out they actually produced several efforts at goal, Martyn Margetson was in fine form as he made a number of good saves.
City deserved the win today, the quality of football at times was outstanding. Margetson and Thorne were the pick of the players but all round every player contributed. Graham Kavanagh was more like his old self, his persistence earned him the goal that won the game for City.
The whistle happy referee ensured the game was no classic with a fussy performace but City will be happy with the win.
Peter Thorne has the most number of chances I seen him have in a City shirt. He must have put 5 or 6 clear headers at goal, the first hit the post, the second thundered of the bar and the others were kept out by the keeper.
The win, City's 4th in a row at home takes Lennie's record to an amazing 1 regulation league defeat in 26 games played. Even if you inc the play off semi finals it makes 2 defeats in 28 games. It's an outstanding record.
Being at the top of the table now is nice, most importantly we must be there at the end of the season.
Well done today City, the sign of a good team is one that does not panic, the boys stuck to their task and the reward came.
