Jones: 'Two good sides having a go

"We made it harder than necessary as we switched off at 3-0 up and they scored almost straight away to give themselves hope," said Dave Jones.

"Their second goal was a bit of a fluke as Tom Heaton tripped over his own feet and that made it difficult for us. They're a decent side but, especially in the first half, we showed them what we could do.

"We knew they wouldn't lie down as they are a good team and we needed a fourth goal to settle things. It is two good sides having a go and they threw six forward at times but that gave us the opportunity to do some damage at their end."

Malky Mackay believes his side were worth a point.

"Chances change games but we had a huge mountain to climb after going 3-0 down.

"But when we got a goal back we gave Cardiff their hardest game of the season and had a goal disallowed and hit the post both within a minute.

"I was delighted we kept our belief and kept playing, especially after half-time, and I'm very proud of my team as I think we really deserved a point.

"Cardiff have a very strong side which is why they are being tipped for promotion but it is our first defeat in a while and that performance will give my team every confidence as today we proved we can compete against any of the top five.

"At the moment all six places at the top of the division are up for grabs as there are about 12 teams all going for those places and I think it all depends upon who can be brought in to add to the strength of those teams."
