"The points target at the start of the season was 52 points because that we felt was the safety," Jones told BBC Wales Sport. (City are currently on 48 with 13 games to go).
"No that we're close to it with a lot of games still to play, and there is an opportunity to get into that top six then that's what we'll keep striving for."
"We know we need to go on a good run, something we haven't had all season. Fingers crossed we can get into a situation where the breaks go for us and we stay free from injury.
"We're in with a shout to get into the play-off so why not go for it? There's a five-point gap but we'll keep going."
City are away at Luton on Tuesday night and that's followed by a home game on Saturday against Hull City.
